First introduced in 2008, the Hard-edge marble lighter reproduces a deep emerald green tortoise shell pattern from spray painting by hand in multiple layers. These textured effects are never exactly the same, and are unique to each lighter.

In the words of Tsubota Pearl's president, Eiichi Tsubota:
The marble finish on our lighters is created by hand, using stencils individually applied before lacquering. Once the lacquer is added, the stencils are lifted to create the soft, blurred pattern. Each lighter is sized and painted so the design continues cleanly across both cap and body. After the marble layer, a clear coat is applied and the surface is polished by hand to a glossy shine.
This technique is inspired by Japanese lighter manufacturing from the 1960s–1980s, when metal lighters were lacquered to mimic tortoiseshell. At Tsubota Pearl, we've adapted this process for transparent materials, combining modern design with traditional craftsmanship—an approach that’s kept the style in production since 2006.
