Introduction

Maybe you've swapped out your regular drinkware for our bespoke vessels, but now you're dealing with a cluttered cupboard. And let's face it, concerns about generating more waste, especially from the containers, are valid.

Enter our accidental stroke of genius – sustainable refill candles that fit snugly into your favorite glass or ceramic vessel. They don't burn independently like pillars; instead, they collapse after a few hours, filling your chosen vessel with liquid wax and burning like a regular container candle for up to 25 hours.

Mosey on down to our directions to see what vessels work best for refills.

Directions

1. Container Specifications: Ensure you use a suitable container to burn this candle. The container should be approximately 2.75 inches in width and 3 inches in height.

2. Candle Size and Container Volume: This candle is approximately 6.5 oz. Ensure that your chosen container has a volume greater than 7 oz.

3. Preferred Containers: Recommended containers include straight-sided glassware, mason jars, cocktail glassware, Light Provisions glassware, or ceramic mugs. These types provide optimal performance.

4. Unsuitable Containers: Do not use bowls or plates for burning Refill candles. Refill candles are designed to collapse into a vessel with walls (such as our glassware).

5. Securing the Candle: If the container’s bottom surface is uneven, causing the candle to tilt, you may soften the bottom of the candle with a brief exposure to a flame to help it adhere to the base. Alternatively, our wax-based Stickum can be used for extra stability.

6. Wick Tabs: Do not remove the metal wick tabs at the bottom of the candle; they are crucial for keeping the wick upright and centered. If you notice the wick tab shifting as the candle burns down, and are concerned about the flame proximity to the glass, Stickum can be applied to secure the wick in place.

7. Burning Maintenance: The wick may develop a 'mushroom' shape after burning, which is normal. Always trim off the mushroomed part before relighting to ensure a cleaner burn. Keep the wick trimmed to about 0.5 inches, which is slightly larger than our standard 0.25 inch recommendation.

8. Clean Out & Reuse: Once done, clean out your vessel by sticking it in the freezer for an hour and popping out frozen wax with a butter knife. Rinse with warm soapy water.

Ingredients & FAQ

Poured by humans in Colorado Springs, Colorado with soy and plant-based additives. Our wicks are composed of woven cotton and paper, primed in vegetable wax, and always lead-free. Our fragrances are blends of phthalate-free perfume oils and essential oils.

Why not just make pillar candles?

Interestingly, pillar candles were our original intent. Our accidental discovery of a refill solution happened while developing a pillar candle for our line. Despite experimenting with different wick types and sizes, the test candles kept collapsing. However, testing them in our signature rippled glassware revealed promising results: the collapsed candle filled the vessel like a regular container candle and burned evenly for about 25 hours. Our wax blend, designed for standalone pillar candles, made cleanup easy because it doesn't stick to the container walls like a traditional  container wax.

What are some suitable containers that I can use?

Anything that is over 7 oz in liquid volume and at least 2.75 inches wide and 3 inches high. Examples include: mason jars, straight-sided rocks glasses, whiskey glasses, or any glasses from our previous fall or summer: special edition collections.

Feel free to Send Us a photo if you're unsure.

Will you make more scents, or have other collections included for refills?

That's the plan. We're currently soft launching with just Unscented and Palo Santo & Ginger (a special edition scent from 2023). However, we plan to release refills in all our scent collections, plus new ones later this year, along with scents exclusive to the refill line.

WICK-ed genius!

Creating a refill option for the glass tumblers (or other suitably sized container) is a genius move in the direction of sustainability for business and for the end user. Not only will it allow those of us to reuse our glass tumblers for candles. It will also allow someone to use their own container, saving them both money and the waste of extra packaging from purchasing a candle in a container.
The Palo Santo & Ginger is possibly the closest recognizable scent I've smelled to Palo Santo. The ginger is balanced for a slight zing of refreshment to the heaviness of the Palo Santo.

Perfection

I have been eagerly awaiting the moment for refills as I have so many beautiful vessels from Light Provisions and others, to the point where I was filling them on my own and gifting them.

I am so happy these are here and I cannot wait for the Campfire edition!!!
