First released in 2008, this Hard-edge marble lighter recreates a deep amber tortoise-shell effect. Each piece is spray painted by hand in multiple layers, so no two lighters are ever exactly alike.

A note from Tsubota Pearl’s president, Eiichi Tsubota:
“Our marble finish is created by hand, using individually applied stencils before lacquering. Once lacquered, the stencils are removed to reveal a soft, blurred pattern. Each lighter is sized and painted so the design flows across the cap and body. After the marble layer, we add a clear coat and polish the surface by hand to a glossy shine.”
This technique draws on Japanese lighter craftsmanship of the 1960s–1980s, when lacquered metal lighters imitated tortoiseshell. Tsubota Pearl has adapted that process for transparent materials, blending modern design with traditional methods to keep this style in production since 2006.
