First released in 2008, this Hard-edge marble lighter showcases a rich amber tortoise-shell effect. Each piece is spray painted by hand in multiple layers, creating unique textures and patterns so no two lighters are alike.

Refillable, gift-ready, and handmade in Japan, it’s a tool built to last and look good doing it.

Fluid not included: Fill with Zippo or Zippo-style lighter fluid (not butane)

Made in Japan: Handmade with directions and gift box included

A note from Tsubota Pearl’s president, Eiichi Tsubota:
“Our marble pattern finish is created by hand, using individually applied stencils before lacquering. As lacquer is added, the stencils are lifted to reveal a soft, blurred pattern. Each lighter is sized and painted so the design continues smoothly across the cap and body. After the marble layer, a clear coat is applied and the surface is polished by hand to a glossy shine.”

This technique draws on Japanese lighter craftsmanship of the 1960s–1980s, when lacquered metal lighters mimicked tortoiseshell. Tsubota Pearl has adapted that process for transparent materials, blending modern design with traditional methods to keep this style in production since 2006.

A family-owned business based in Tokyo, Tsubota Pearl have been producing lighters since 1952. Founder Hiroshi Tsubota chose the name “Pearl” after the world’s first cultured pearl was invented in Japan.

A truly sustainable object is something that has replaceable and repairable parts.
