Scent

HIBI incense matches are part match, part incense stick, and very easy to keep within reach. Strike one on the side of the box, let the flame settle, then place it on the included felt mat and enjoy about 10 minutes of fragrance.

Made in Hyogo, Japan, hibi brings together the matchmaking tradition of the Harima region and the incense craft of Awaji Island. The result is a compact incense format that needs no separate lighter or match.

Use one before guests arrive, after cooking, during meditation, while journaling, or as a short timer for focus. It is incense for the small pauses in the day.

Each box includes 8 incense matches and a felt mat for burning one stick at a time.

Details

  • Approx. 10 minute burn time per stick
  • Made in Hyogo, Japan
  • Dimensions: 2.2” W x 2.2” L x 0.4” H

Scent Notes

Cedar Wood: Dry, woody, clean, and slightly resinous. Similar to cedar chests, pencil shavings, and dry timber.

Japanese Cypress / Hinoki: A dry, clean wood scent with a soft green edge. The unlit match leans sun-dried and straw-like, while the burn settles into quiet cypress wood.

About HIBI

HIBI was developed in Hyogo, Japan through a collaboration between traditional matchmakers from the Harima region and incense makers from Awaji Island.

Kobe Match Company was founded in 1929 in Himeji, a region known for match production. Awaji Island has a long history of incense craft and remains one of Japan’s key incense-producing areas.

The idea began in 2011: create an incense stick that could be lit like a match. After several years of development, hibi became a compact incense format designed for daily use.

How to Use

Strike one HIBI incense match on the brown striking surface on the side of the box. Hold the stick near the middle and strike at about a 45 degree angle. If incense fails to light or breaks in the process, simply relight with a lighter or matches instead of throwing away.

Once lit, hold the stick slightly downward until the flame settles and the incense portion begins to burn. Place it on the included felt mat and enjoy for about 10 minutes.

Burn one stick at a time. Do not leave burning incense unattended.
