ColorBlack Blue

Handmade in Japan from 100% recycled glass recovered from old cathode ray tubes once used in televisions and monitors, the IYE Square Incense Holder is solid, minimal, and architectural. Its compact form brings a grounded presence to any space while giving incense a stable, weighty base.

Available in two naturally formed tones, each piece reflects the muted character of the recycled glass itself. Blue-Gray catches and softens light, with a restrained color that closely resembles masuhanairo, a bluish-gray hue first popularized in the Edo period by kabuki actor Ichikawa Danjuro V. Black-Blue has a deep near-black tone, created by higher concentrations of iron and cobalt oxides in the recycled glass, giving the surface a rich, inky depth that shifts subtly throughout the day.

Each holder is individually cast and polished by hand, resulting in slight variations in color, surface, and form. No two are exactly alike, which is part of the point. These are small objects with real material history, made to hold a daily ritual without asking for much attention.

About the Colors

Blue-Gray

The pale blue-gray version catches and softens light, closely resembling masuhanairo, a restrained blue-gray hue associated with traditional Japanese color palettes. Its tone shifts throughout the day, appearing cooler in daylight and softer in warmer evening light.

Black-Blue

The darker version appears nearly black at first glance, but reveals deep blue undertones when illuminated. Higher concentrations of iron and cobalt oxides in the recycled glass create its rich, inky character and depth.

Use & Care
  • Insert incense into center opening
  • Place on a heat-safe surface
  • Pair with a tray beneath to catch stray ash from longer incense sticks
  • Allow ash to collect and discard after use
